My Self Tanning Routine: Loving Tan

Writer: Rachel HutchensRachel Hutchens

When it comes to my self tanning routine, I have always struggled with finding that perfect product. It is extremely hard to get a good color on my skin in the winter months, and I tend to blind people when I am wearing clothing that might show a little leg. I have never been a fan of tanning beds, as I try to take very good care of my skin and never want to be "that woman" with skin damage covering her from head to toe. Most self tanners show streaks, smell like garbage, and reveals a color that resembles an Oompa Loompa. I found loving tan 3 years ago on my journey to try every self tanning product on the market, and boy did I FALL IN LOVE. I start out by exfoliating my skin with a loofa or a light exfoliating body scrub in the shower. Next, I make sure to stand under the water while it is cold prior to stepping out. Warm water will open up your pores, and when the self tanner is applied directly after this occurs, you will naturally see dark brown spots all across your body where the self tanner gathered. Prevent these spots of tanner by running cold water on your body for 10-15 seconds, or wait for 15 minutes to put self tanner on once you have exited the shower. After this, I will apply a light amount of moisturizer on the areas that self tanner tends to settle (elbows, heals, knees, knuckles). After all of this, we are ready to apply the tanner. I use the Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse in Ultra Dark, and apply it with their tanning mitt. It is important to use a tanning mitt to apply as the fabric will blend in smoothly. I will put on baggy clothing, and go to sleep. 8 hours is the designated wait period before rinsing off the top bronzer layer, but I tend to rinse when I wake up the next morning. I will jump in the shower for 5 minutes and remain in the running water till it runs clear, pat dry with a towel and go about my day. THAT IS IT. I hope this helped you in your journey to being bronzed, and can not recommend these products enough!
